Many of us breathed a sigh of relief when we were handed a new sense of freedom in mid-April. It was announced that some restrictions were lifted and we could now go shopping, have our hair done, and begin to enjoy the summer. To mark this occasion, we have compiled a list of the best outdoor activities you can do whilst still following Covid-19 guidelines. We’ve got activities and days out for the whole family – including elderly parents and grandparents.
1. Golfing
Golf courses and mini golf have been able to open since 29th March. This is an activity that can get you moving, relax you, and be a ton of fun. It is also a sport that doesn’t require a large group of people. Go with your household or in a group of up to six people – this could be a great day out for grandparents and grandchildren during the school holidays.
2. Going to the Zoo
Zoos are now open in England! Many zoos in Scotland and Northern Ireland have also opened their gates, with Welsh zoos due to open from 26th April. Have a fabulous family day out while supporting the animals and the people looking after them by purchasing a ticket to your local zoo this summer! This is another outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy together under Covid-19 rules.
3. Going to an Outdoor Restaurant
From beer gardens to rooftop terraces, restaurants have made every effort to offer chairs to their hungry visitors. Combat the shivers while we’re still in early summer with a plate of hot food or a hot drink. Book quickly as everyone is excited to visit their favourite food haunts as soon as possible!
4. Canoeing
Canoeing is a brilliant outdoor activity to do in the summer. Just like golf, it can be a great source of exercise – go for a leisurely paddle or make a proper workout of it! Canoeing can be done in a shared boat or individual canoes, making it one of the best outdoor activities to share with your household or support bubble.
5. Going to a Fair
From farmers’ markets to carnivals, smaller outdoor activities are now permitted. Have a bite to eat, take a spin on a ride, or simply lay back and soak up the sun at a fair. Fairs offer fun for all ages, making them the perfect place for a household day out!
6. Playing Tennis
Tennis is the original socially distanced sport. You stand a court apart from your opponent as you keep active and make the most of the summer sun. For this reason, tennis is one of the best outdoor activities to do as lockdown eases. It’s also a great way to stay active, of course.
7. Drive-in Movie Theatres
Care for a bit of 50s nostalgia? Outdoor, drive-in cinemas have popped up all over the place again in recent years. Of course, social distancing has only added to their boom in popularity. It is simple enough to find your local drive-in movie theatre with Google. Book your tickets and grab your popcorn!
8. Going to the Beach
For those of us who live close enough to the coast, visiting the beach is a brilliant way to enjoy the great outdoors. The seaside offers a whole array of fantastic outdoor activities. Whether you’re building sandcastles, having a take-away fish and chips, or going for a swim (if you’re brave enough!) the beach is the ideal place to spend the day as lockdown eases.
Staying Safe This Summer
It comes as a huge relief to most that we can begin to get back to normal, visiting pubs and shops and seeing our loved ones. However, it is absolutely vital that we all continue to follow the latest social distancing guidelines. Thankfully, it seems as if things are beginning to look up and go back to the normal we’re used to.
