The BBC have reported that we could be seeing the care home market heading for a crash, due to large debts and government cuts.
Although the number of beds have increased, the number of care homes has actually fallen by roughly 5%. It is the smaller care homes that seem to be most at risk and therefore closing their doors.
Although there are very large care home providers such as; Four Seasons, Bupa, Care UK, Barchester and HC-1, they only control about a fifth of the market. Even these larger companies are struggling under debts as large as 50 million a year to service.
Alternative to a care home
Care homes are by no means cheap for residents either. Whilst six out of ten residents get council funding, they will also be assessed to see what contribution they can make towards that. And the rest of residents without council funding, known as self-funders, pay for the full cost of the care home themselves. Fees for self-funders are almost always set above what the council rate is.
So what’s the alternative, is their another option? Absolutely! Inexpensive personal alarms is what we at Careline pride ourselves in. Not only are they more affordable but they enable people to stay at home longer.
Benefits of a Careline
- A Careline personal alarm is light, discreet and comfortable. You don’t need to alter much of your lifestyle – just remember to have it on you either; around your neck, wrist or waist.
- You can purchase an alarm for £125.00 a year, with a one-off additional payment of £40.00 which covers the setup and administration costs for new customers. It’s considerably cheaper than a care home.
